Poetics Serendipity

7:42 a.m. — Atlanta

listening to Loggins & Messina sing Your Mama Don’t Dance

Hello, there. How are you? Can you believe this is October? October precedes November. November brings NANOWRIMO. Did I hear faint screams? Start training, people. Don’t you wish someone would invent a slow down switch? I have three places for you to escape to momentarily. One, you can even get lost in for a while.

1] That would be this first link from Poets & Writers. They have put together a list of 79 of the absolute best books for writers. Imagine: someone has read every book for writers they can find and then winnowed them for us. The chosen books cover all genres, but as many of you write fiction, as well as poetry, the list will be fun to peruse. You might not come out for days and then you’ll have a shopping list with you. Bliss.

2] While we are getting ourselves into a prose frame of mind, I have a site where you can submit your flash fiction. The Telegram Review is a website developed ‘to recognize a form that has been on the outskirts of popular literary criticism, not in an effort to make it popular, but because we believe that with some dedication and attention it can bring the written word to more people than ever before‘. The link is to their about page. Click on The Wire tab, when there, and you can read some of the pieces they have published.

3] The last link is to an interesting piece written about Amazon and whether it is good, or bad, for authors. Brooke Warner, publisher of She Writes Press, gives us ten points and ranks them with thumbs up, thumbs down along with her brief explanations. It is not a long piece and I found it fascinating.

‘K? I shall see you tomorrow for the week’s roundup of prompts and then, not until Tuesday the 15th for our next poem prompt. Come in and say Hi, tomorrow. The blog and I begin our fourth year together with our 500th post. We are very excited.

Happy writing, everyone.
